According to the deputy head of the Shiite organization, the US mediation attempts between Hezbollah in Lebanon and Israel are just a "show". In an interview with the Hezbollah television station Al-Manar, Hezbollah deputy Naim Kassem criticized the fact that the US envoy Amos Hochstein had not made any concrete proposals during his visit to the Lebanese capital Beirut.

Hochstein had traveled to Lebanon on Wednesday in order to advocate an easing of tensions in the military conflict between Israel and the Lebanese Hezbollah. Lebanon's parliamentary speaker and important ally of Hezbollah, Nabih Berri, told Arab media that the meeting with Hochstein had "produced positive results".

Hochstein himself said after the meeting with Berri: "He and I agree that no more time should be wasted". There were also no more "valid reasons" for delays. An agreement in the Gaza war would make a "diplomatic solution" in Lebanon possible and prevent the outbreak of a major war.

Hezbollah Vice President Kassem himself has not met Hochstein. Hochstein's efforts are considered crucial in the attempt to prevent an even wider escalation between Israel and Hezbollah.
