Israel has launched a massive aerial attack on its hostile neighbor Lebanon. The military announced in the evening that around 100 rocket launchers belonging to the Lebanese Shia militia Hezbollah had been fired upon. The air force also attacked "terrorist infrastructure".

The army will continue to weaken Hezbollah's infrastructure and capabilities in order to defend the state of Israel, it said. The military had previously announced that artillery had shelled the Nakura area in southern Lebanon.

Lebanese security circles spoke of one of the heaviest waves of Israeli attacks since mutual shelling began in October. Around 70 targets were attacked within 20 minutes. They confirmed that rocket launchers had been hit. It was the second series of Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon on Thursday.

There was concern about a possible Israeli ground offensive in the south of the neighboring country. Israel wants to push Hezbollah out of the border area again in order to guarantee the safety of its citizens in the north.
