At least one person has been killed in Israeli airstrikes in the interior of Lebanon, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health. Sixteen others were injured in the attacks shortly after midnight (local time). According to Lebanese security sources, the air strikes hit the Bekaa Valley near the city of Baalbek in the north-east of the country. The area is considered a Hezbollah stronghold.

The Israeli army announced in the morning that the target was weapons depots belonging to the Shiite Hezbollah militia. There had been secondary explosions after the attacks, indicating large quantities of weapons on site. In addition, the attacks in north-eastern Lebanon targeted an area used by the Hezbollah militia's air defenses, the statement added.

Earlier that evening, the Israeli air force had already attacked Hezbollah militia military installations in the south of Lebanon. According to Israeli military information, numerous missiles were then again fired at northern Israel. According to the army, a volley of around 50 missiles flew over the border. Some of them were intercepted by air defenses, while others fell in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. There were initially no reports of casualties.

According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, four people were killed and two others injured in the Israeli attack in the south of Lebanon in the town of Dheira near the border.

The Hezbollah militia announced during the night that three of its fighters had been killed, without specifying the time or place of their deaths. According to Lebanese security sources, the fighters were killed in the attack on Dheira.

The Israeli military claimed to have hit a "Hezbollah terrorist" and military installations during attacks in the south of Lebanon.

Since the beginning of the war in the Gaza Strip more than eight months ago, there have been daily military confrontations between the Israeli army and the Hezbollah militia in Lebanon as well as other groups in the border area between the countries. There have been casualties on both sides - most of them members of Hezbollah.
