A man has been overpowered by security forces at a campaign event for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in the US state of Pennsylvania.

Videos showed the man entering the cordoned-off press area in the event hall in Johnstown and climbing onto a platform on which cameras were set up. Security forces finally pulled the man down again and led him out of the hall. The background to the incident and the man's motivation were unclear.

It was unclear whether the man was a supporter or opponent of Trump. Trump had previously - as usual in his speeches - attacked the US media fiercely. He described the "New York Times" as the "enemy of the people" and spoke of the "fake news" media.

Since the assassination attempt on Trump a few weeks ago, increased security precautions have been in place at his events. On July 13, a gunman shot at Trump from a nearby rooftop at a campaign event in Pennsylvania. Trump was injured by a bullet to his right ear and the perpetrator was shot dead by security forces shortly afterwards. One visitor died and two others were injured.

Trump is running against Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in the presidential election on November 5.
