Russian troops have once again announced successes in their advance in the eastern Ukrainian region of Donetsk. The Ministry of Defense in Moscow reported the capture of the villages of Progress and Yevhenivka. There was initially no confirmation from the Ukrainian side for Yevhenivka. The pro-government Ukrainian military channel Deep State had already reported on Telegram days ago that the village of Progress in the Pokrovsk district, which had been embattled for three months, had been occupied by Russian troops.

The Russian claims could not be independently verified. However, according to Western military experts, Russian troops have taken control of numerous towns and villages in the Donbass in eastern Ukraine since the beginning of the year.

The Ministry of Defense in Moscow has reported dozens of conquests in the annexed areas of Luhansk and Donetsk as well as in the Kharkiv region, which is predominantly controlled by Ukraine, since the beginning of the year. The Russian war aim is to completely occupy the annexed but not yet fully controlled Ukrainian regions of Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk and Donetsk.

There is generally no official confirmation in Kiev of the territorial losses. On Sunday, the armed forces of both sides reported the shooting down of numerous drones by the enemy and individual successes in battles on the battlefield. Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian war of aggression for more than two years with Western military aid. Around a fifth of the country is occupied by Russian troops.
