In the midst of the war with Russia, the Ukrainian parliament has initiated the government reshuffle announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyi and dismissed several ministers.

The resignations of Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna, Justice Minister Denys Malyuska, Armaments Minister Olexander Kamyshin and Environment Minister Ruslan Strilets were accepted by clear majorities, Ukrainian media reported.

Only Malyuska and Kamyshin had appeared in person in the Supreme Rada and reported on their work.

The dismissals of deputy head of government Iryna Vereshchuk and Vitaly Koval, head of the State Property Fund, failed for the time being due to a lack of votes. MPs had criticized the fact that the vote was to take place without a prior accountability report from the dismissal candidates.

On Tuesday, parliament had received requests for the dismissal of several ministers. In the morning, Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba also resigned from office.

President Volodymyr Zelensky announced in July that he wanted to improve the work of the government by making new appointments. The head of the parliamentary group of the presidential party Servants of the People, David Arachamija, declared that more than half of the ministerial posts were to be filled with new appointments. Ukraine has been fending off a Russian invasion for over two and a half years.
