Following his visit to Germany and other European countries, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi is urging his partners in the West to provide swift assistance in the fight against the Russian war of aggression. "No time must be wasted - a clear signal must be sent," he said on the short message service X.

"Our partners are able to provide the required quantity and quality of air defense systems, make decisions for our sufficient long-range capabilities and ensure the timely provision of defense assistance to our troops," Selenskyj wrote.

In the past week, the Russians have dropped around 900 glide bombs over Ukraine, he said. There had also been attacks with 40 missiles and 400 strikes with drones of various types, Selensky explained and also published a video of the damage.

Ukrainian air defense reports downing of drones

On Sunday alone, the Ukrainian air defense reported the shooting down of 31 Russian drones. There were a total of 68 drone attacks and several missile strikes during the night. No damage was reported.

Selensky had visited Rome, Paris and London last week and met Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin. During the European tour, he promoted his "victory plan", which has not yet been made public.

However, it is clear that Ukraine is demanding that the West release long-range weapons for strikes against military targets far into the Russian hinterland. Kiev is also demanding a concrete invitation for Ukraine to join NATO.

The country is under increasing military pressure due to the Russian advance in eastern Ukraine. Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, 2022 and has been waging a destructive war ever since.
