According to the army, the Israeli air force has attacked further targets of the Islamist Hamas in the Gaza Strip. In the center and south of the coastal strip, together with ground troops, an undisclosed number of opponents were killed, a launching pad for rockets and several tunnels were destroyed and weapons were seized, the army announced on Saturday. In the north of the Gaza Strip, further terrorists were killed in an air strike. An independent verification of the information was initially not possible.

Gunmen also fired an anti-aircraft missile at an Israeli fighter jet. The aircraft was not damaged and the Palestinian unit that fired the missile was "eliminated".

There were initially no further statements on an attack attributed to Israel on a tent camp with displaced persons near the town of Rafah in the south of the Gaza Strip the previous day, which according to Palestinian reports left at least 24 dead and 47 injured. In response to an inquiry, the Israeli military stated that initial investigations indicated that the attack in Al-Mawasi was not carried out by Israeli troops. The incident is still being investigated. Eyewitnesses had previously reported that Israeli tank shells had hit the tent camp as a complete surprise.

The Gaza war was triggered by the unprecedented massacre of more than 1,200 people killed by terrorists from Hamas and other groups in Israel on October 7 last year. Israel responded with massive air strikes and a ground offensive. In view of the high number of civilian casualties and the catastrophic situation in the Gaza Strip, Israel has come under international criticism.
