Following the incident in a Krefeld cinema in north-west Germany in which a suspect was shot dead, police say there are no indications of a terrorist attack. The exact motive is still unclear and under investigation.

This was announced by the police early on Friday morning. The 38-year-old attempted to set fire to the foyer of the cinema on Thursday evening. The crime was prevented by the use of firearms by the police.

The man was taken to hospital, where he continued to receive medical treatment. According to the police, the suspect is a Krefeld resident of Iranian nationality. It had initially been reported that the man was Iraqi.
