Lufthansa has found a new Chairman for its Supervisory Board: The current Alpiq Chairman of the Board of Directors and former Eon CEO Johannes Teyssen is to head the supervisory body in future, as the airline announced in Frankfurt on Tuesday.

The manager is to be proposed for election to the Supervisory Board at the Lufthansa Annual General Meeting on May 12, 2026 and will then be elected to head the supervisory body. Teyssen will succeed Karl-Ludwig Kley at the helm of Europe's largest aviation group, which also includes Swiss.

The future Lufthansa CEO Teyssen has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Swiss energy group Alpiq since 2022. He also sits on the Board of Directors of the British energy group BP. Before taking up his position at Alpiq, Teyssen headed the German energy group Eon for more than ten years.

According to the press release, Kley will step down from the Lufthansa Supervisory Board in 2026 when his mandate expires after 13 years - eight of which as Chairman. Kley was Chairman of the Supervisory Board at Eon until 2023 and therefore knows Teyssen from earlier times at the energy company.

The search for a new Chairman of the Lufthansa Supervisory Board had dragged on. Former Airbus CEO Tom Enders, who had long been considered Kley's designated successor, resigned from his position prematurely at the Lufthansa Annual General Meeting this May at his own request.
