The EU Commission should think about a consistent mandate to cut red tape, for example, which would clear up the bureaucratic jungle, said the legal politician in the Chamber of Deputies in Rome on Wednesday. This could be a signal for change.
Meloni was referring in particular to the economy with her words - bureaucracy in the EU disadvantages entrepreneurs in particular. The bureaucratic giant must be transformed into a political giant that is strong in its thousand-year-old civilization, that is aware of its unparalleled excellence in many areas and that helps its production systems to assert themselves in global competition, she said.
In Europe, the method that Italy advocates under her aegis should be applied: "Don't disturb those who want to do something," Meloni said. This would help.
Meloni also criticized the fact that the EU was too steeped in ideological decisions. This had undermined citizens' trust in the institutions. "The perception is of a Union that intervenes too much in aspects of daily life," said Meloni. In return, it remains weaker in its ability to influence global scenarios.
Before her time as Prime Minister, Meloni regularly criticized the EU, sometimes very harshly. Since she has been in government and regularly visits Brussels herself, she has been far more moderate.
