On July 4, the traditional hot dog eating contest took place on the Coney Island peninsula in New York.
There was a new champion among the men: Patrick Bertoletti ate 58 hot dogs.
Miki Sudo defended her title in the women's category with 51 hot dogs.
In the absence of food legend Joey Chestnut, US-American Patrick Bertoletti won the traditional New York hot dog eating contest on US Independence Day.
Bertoletti devoured 58 buns and sausages in ten minutes at the contest in the Coney Island district, more than any of his competitors - his first title. Thousands of spectators cheered on the holiday spectacle.
Meanwhile, there was a record in the women's competition: defending champion Miki Sudo managed 51 hot dogs. Sudo was the big favorite in the women's competition. She had won every competition since 2014 with the exception of 2021 - when she was pregnant and did not take part.
The perennial winner in the men's competition is actually Chestnut, who was excluded from this year's competition due to a sponsor conflict. Chestnut had won the competition in front of the Coney Island amusement park in southern New York every year since 2016. His own world record is 76 hot dogs - just under eight per minute.
