Migros has found a buyer for some of its SportX stores. The Dosenbach-Ochsner Group is taking over a good half of the stores, as the companies involved announced on Tuesday. As a result, 95 jobs will be lost at the head office.

Specifically, 27 of the 49 SportX stores will be taken over. 24 locations will continue to operate under the Ochsner Sport brand and three locations under the Dosenbach brand, according to the Migros communiqué.

The stores are expected to be converted from March 2025, but the integration of the stores is still subject to review by the Competition Commission.

Jobs in stores to remain

All employees at the affected stores will be kept on, according to the statement. Apprentices at all SportX stores will also be able to continue their training at Ochsner Sport.

However, there will be job losses at the head office. In the Migros Fachmarkt AG service company, which is responsible for the strategic direction of all Migros specialist store formats and provides all central services, 95 jobs will be cut, according to the Migros press release.

Negotiations about further stores

The future of the remaining 22 SportX stores is still open. According to Migros, negotiations are underway with various other interested parties.

Last February, the retailer announced its intention to divest SportX. This was part of its strategy to focus on its core business. The travel subsidiary Hotelplan, Micasa, Do it + Garden, Bike World and the cosmetics and hygiene subsidiary Mibelle are also to be sold.

The sale of Melectronics is already in the bag: 20 of the 37 consumer electronics stores will go to Mediamarkt, while the remaining 17 will be closed, as was recently announced.
