During a military operation in the West Bank, Israeli soldiers tied an injured Palestinian to the hood of a vehicle. On Sunday, the Israeli army confirmed the incident the day before, which had caused outrage on social media. A video shows how the jeep with the man on the hood drove past two ambulances. The soldiers were accused of abusing the injured man as a "human shield" during the operation.

The army statement said that the troops had been on an anti-terrorist mission in the greater Jenin area to arrest suspects. The soldiers were fired upon and returned fire. "During the exchange of fire, one of the suspects was injured and arrested."

The soldiers had violated military rules when they detained the man on the hood. "The behavior of the armed forces in the video of the incident does not correspond to the values of the Israeli army," the military statement continued. The incident would be investigated and "dealt with accordingly". The injured suspect was handed over to the Red Cross for medical treatment.

Jenin is considered a stronghold of militant Palestinians. The Israeli army repeatedly carries out raids there. The situation in the West Bank has worsened significantly since the start of the Gaza war following the Hamas massacre on October 7, 2023.

According to the Ministry of Health, the number of Palestinians killed in Israeli military operations, confrontations or their own attacks in the West Bank has recently risen to more than 530. Violence by radical Israeli settlers against Palestinians also increased significantly during this period.
