Voters in Uri are expected to be able to vote on the new primary school ordinance. According to the teachers' association of the canton of Uri, the referendum has been successful.

More than 900 signatures have already been collected, the association announced on Friday. A total of 450 valid signatures are required for the referendum to take place.

The teachers nevertheless want to continue collecting signatures until mid-July. In doing so, they want to lend even more weight to their request, as stated in the press release.

One controversial aspect of the new primary school ordinance is the supervision of large school classes. The cantonal council stipulated that such classes can, but do not have to, receive additional resources. This means that the canton would not have to contribute to the additional costs.
