The proportion of employed refugees from Ukraine has risen to 27% in the canton of Zurich. A year earlier, it was still at 18 percent. The proportion of men with S protection status has increased.

The Statistical Office of the Canton of Zurich announced on Wednesday that 24% of refugees from Ukraine are now men. This is eight percent more than in June 2022.

50 percent of refugees are women, the rest are minors. A total of 11,900 people with protection status S live in the canton. Recently, the number has been falling slightly.

Difficult access to certain professions

Refugees most frequently work in the hospitality industry, followed by education and retail. This does not correspond to the qualifications of Ukrainians, writes the Statistical Office. However, insufficient language skills or a lack of recognition of educational certificates make it difficult for them to gain access to certain professions.

26 percent of women and 31 percent of men work. This means that they have reached the level of temporarily admitted and recognized refugees. According to the press release, women have already clearly exceeded this level.

The figures were collected at the end of March.
