The candidates for the 100 seats in the cantonal parliament include 537 men and 333 women. The proportion of women is just under 38.3 percent. The average age is 48.

This has hardly changed compared to the last elections, writes the Presidential Department. However, the proportion of 18 to 24-year-olds increased slightly, particularly among women. The proportion of over 50-year-olds also increased; this group makes up half of the candidates.

A total of 96 incumbents are standing for re-election. 177 candidates (20.2%) are making a second attempt after the last election in 2020.

According to the press release, as in 2020, the largest professional group of candidates are lawyers and fiduciaries, who account for a total share of 16.1%. The proportion of candidates from trade and gastronomy has fallen sharply.

Twelve candidates for the cantonal council

Twelve people are standing for election to the seven seats on the cantonal government: the joint SP, BastA! and Green Party candidate list includes Oliver Bolliger (BastA!) and Anina Ineichen (Green Party) alongside incumbents Mustafa Atici, Tanja Soland and Kaspar Sutter (all SP).

In addition to the incumbents Conradin Cramer (LDP), Lukas Engelberger (Center) and Stephanie Eymann (LDP), Eva Biland (FDP) and Stefan Suter (SVP) are new candidates on the joint election proposal of the FDP, LDP, Center and SVP. Esther Keller (GLP) and Eric Weber (VA) are running individually.

Three of the candidates for the cantonal government are also running for the presidency. These are the incumbents Conradin Cramer (LDP) and Anina Ineichen (Greens) as well as Eric Weber (VA).
