"The tax account offers residents of Aargau the opportunity to view and manage their tax bills online," said Daniel Schudel, head of the cantonal tax office, in a press release.

A QR code makes it possible to easily scan and pay outstanding invoices using a banking app. The tax account also provides information on each tax invoice, including the balance, payment status, due date and bookings. Confirmations can also be downloaded or an installment payment can be requested.

The new service is available to all private individuals (natural persons) who are liable to pay tax in the canton of Aargau. To use the tax account, they must first register. By 2026, it should also be possible to complete and submit tax returns digitally via the new system, the canton writes.

Private individuals have been able to file their tax returns electronically in Aargau since 2001. This option was only introduced for legal entities in 2021.
