The AL has launched an initiative to distribute part of the EWZ profits. CHF 80 million is to go to the people of Zurich.

The payout would only affect the year 2024, as the AL announced on Wednesday. The General Assembly approved the initiative on Tuesday evening at the request of the Executive Board.

The municipal energy supplier is expecting a record-high profit of 317 million in 2024, primarily from energy trading, writes the AL. In addition to the city treasury, the population should benefit to the same extent.

The AL had already submitted an identical parliamentary initiative to the municipal council. However, only 12 councillors supported the initiative. It was therefore not pursued any further.
