Arosa Bergbahnen AG closed its 2023/2024 financial year with the best result in the company's history. With a turnover of around 36.2 million francs, a profit of 1.97 million francs was achieved. Over 1.4 million people visited the ski resort last winter.

This means that the ski resort recorded 9.3 percent more guests in the past winter season than in the same period in 2022/2023, as Arosa Bergbahnen AG wrote in a press release on Friday. Mountain gastronomy increased its turnover by 5.2 percent.

However, costs also increased, for example for personnel, maintenance and energy. At the end of the financial year on April 30, the operating result (EBITDA) amounted to over 13 million Swiss francs, the press release continued. In the previous financial year, this figure was around 11 million Swiss francs. The profit at that time amounted to 1.17 million francs.

The Arosa ski resort once again benefited from its snow-sure altitude, the company added. The winter business was also boosted by the snowfalls in November and December, some of which were heavy. Low temperatures also made artificial snowmaking possible.

Investments of around eight million francs planned

Arosa Bergbahnen AG reported the number of guests for summer 2023 at 153,000. "In line with expectations, the number of first-time summer visitors is stabilizing at this level after the record figures in the coronavirus summer years," the company continued. In 2021, the mountain railroad recorded 174,000 guests in summer, followed by 149,000 in 2022.

Investments of around eight million Swiss francs are planned for the coming months, the press release continued. Investments will include new snow-making equipment, avalanche safety systems and two new snow groomers. In the long term, the plan is to replace a 6-seater gondola lift from 1986 and a 4-seater chairlift from 1994.
