For adults aged 26 and over in Basel, the monthly premium for compulsory health insurance including optional deductibles and models will rise by an average of 1.4 percent or CHF 7.50 to CHF 529.80. The additional costs per year amount to 90 francs. This is according to figures published on Thursday by the Federal Office of Public Health. The average premium in Switzerland is 449.20 francs.
For young adults aged between 19 and 25, the premium will rise by 0.2 percent or 70 centimes to 378.90 francs. For children up to the age of 18, the premium will rise by 3.2 percent or 4.50 francs to 143.60 francs.
Regional efforts should be continued
The overall moderate development of costs and premiums in Basel-Stadt can also be attributed to local measures to contain cost growth, according to a statement from the Department of Health. These include demand-oriented hospital planning in the joint healthcare region, the shift from the inpatient to the outpatient sector and outpatient admission control. It was important to continue these cantonal and regional efforts so that costs would continue to approach the national average in the coming years.
According to the Department of Health, this year's premium increase is slightly below the average premium growth in Basel-Stadt over the last ten years. This is mainly due to the fact that the long-term cost trend in Basel-Stadt is also significantly below the Swiss average. From 2013 to 2023, the gross benefits of compulsory health insurance per insured person in Basel-Stadt rose by 20.6%. This corresponds to 1.9 percent per year. The national average, however, was 29.1 percent, or 2.6 percent per year.
