In the Basel region, there is still no cantonal solution with majority support for a deputization regulation for absences of members of the cantonal parliament. On Thursday, Parliament referred the matter back to the committee by 43 votes to 38 with 1 abstention.

The majority of the Landrat thus followed a motion for referral by Manuel Ballmer (GLP). He called for the Justice and Security Committee (JSK) to re-examine the previously rejected option of having replacements on the electoral list.

The district council had already referred the bill back to the JSK in March. The latter then requested that the business be written off as no solution capable of winning a majority was found in the committee.

The proposal goes back to a motion from 2020 by former GLP councillor Regula Steinemann. She had called for a deputization solution for maternity, paternity or parental leave as well as for longer illnesses and accidents.
