The canton of Bern is amending six laws because Moutier is about to switch to the canton of Jura. The Grand Council unanimously approved the bill in its second reading on Tuesday.

Legislative changes are needed, for example, because cantonal administrative units are being transferred from Moutier to the Bernese Jura or to Biel. The law on the special statute of the Bernese Jura also ensures that the canton of Bern can support the further development of the Grand Chasseral region.

The voters of the cantons of Jura and Bern will decide on September 22 on the transfer of Moutier to another canton, which is due to take place at the beginning of 2026. The approval of the federal councils is also required beforehand.
