The remaining 40 percent is now held by Elektrizitätswerke des Kantons Zürich (EKZ). No financial details were provided in Friday's announcement.
The Helveticwind cooperation was founded in 2010 and operates a total of six wind farms in Germany and Italy. Five companies have been involved to date: BKW (29%), EKZ (20%), Energie Wasser Bern (29%), Elektra Baselland and SN Erneuerbare Energie (11% each). The latter three are now no longer involved.
The increased stake will enable BKW to expand its portfolio of renewable energy generation plants in its core markets. It now wants to review the potential of the six wind farms in order to optimize the existing areas in the future and increase their energy yield with the help of new technology.
According to the press release, BKW already operates Helveticwind's plants as a service provider and is therefore "very familiar with them".
