Grand Council BS Boules court in front of the Kaserne in Basel to be retained
It will still be possible to play boules on the forecourt of the barracks in the future. This is the assurance given by the Basel government in its response to an interpellation by Heidi Mück (Basta) published on Friday. The new building application for the planned gelateria no longer affects the playing area.

Originally, the applicants had submitted 210 square meters for the ice cream store in front of the barracks. Approval of this application would not only have severely restricted or even made impossible the people playing boules, but also other uses of the forecourt, as the government writes. The original application was therefore rejected.
The newly submitted building application was published in the cantonal gazette at the end of August. It provides for a reduction in the area for outdoor catering at the K-Haus to just 53 square meters.
The first planning application for the gelateria made waves in the local media in summer 2024. Boules fans feared that the planned catering space would displace this non-commercial hobby in public spaces. In addition to lodging objections, they also launched a petition.
