The town of Bremgarten is prepared to make the accommodation available to the State Secretariat for Migration (Sem) in consultation with the canton of Aargau, the State Chancellery of Aargau announced on Thursday. The Sem will use the accommodation for people traveling alone.
According to Sem's forecasts, around 25,000 asylum seekers from Ukraine (status S) and 33,000 other asylum seekers are expected this year. The federal government will therefore need around 2,000 additional places for asylum seekers throughout Switzerland by next fall, according to the press release.
After the end of the temporary use by Sem, the cantonal social services (KSD) will use the underground accommodation as temporary emergency accommodation in agreement with the city. In this way, the canton wants to be prepared for further asylum seekers allocated by the federal government.
Canton plans above-ground accommodation
According to the State Chancellery, the KSD is preparing to set up the accommodation. It will submit a planning application for the temporary installation of above-ground recreation rooms in the form of a container solution.
Due to inadequate infrastructure for individual cooking, the KSD and Sem are relying on a local meal service to provide meals for the people accommodated.
An advisory group is to support the operation of the accommodation. The group will include representatives from the city council, local residents, voluntary organizations, service providers, the police, Sem and the canton.
The asylum seekers will be looked after by the company ORS Service AG. The company Securitas will be entrusted with security tasks.
