The old Lorzentobel bridge can now be renovated. The Zug Cantonal Council has approved the necessary additional credit of CHF 1.5 million without a dissenting vote.

Originally, CHF 5.27 million was available for the renovation of the bridge, which was completed in 1910. The cantonal council allocated this amount as part of the 2014 to 2022 road construction program in 2022, but the money was not enough.

An additional loan was necessary because the renovation work was "massively more complex" than originally planned. The government wrote in its report that there were many more damaged stones than expected and the scaffolding had to be redesigned.

There are few things more unpopular than announcing cost overruns, said Adrian Risi (SVP), President of the Civil Engineering and Waterways Commission. "But the additional costs of CHF 1.5 million can be well justified." Construction Director Florian Weber (FDP) then did this in detail.

Apparently he succeeded well. In any case, the additional credit was undisputed in the council. All parties voted in favor of the project and there were no dissenting votes.

The old Lorzentobel bridge is located on land belonging to the municipalities of Baar and Menzingen. The natural stone bridge is listed in the Federal Inventory of Historic Traffic Routes and is considered an object worthy of protection.

The bridge, which is up to 60 meters high, is now only used by pedestrians and cyclists. It is also used by the forestry service to access the adjacent forest areas.
