A car rolled around 60 meters down a slope in Urnäsch on Sunday morning. The only occupant was a three-year-old child. He had to be taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A family had been staying with their children in an alpine hut in the Böheli area in Urnäsch, the Ausserrhoden cantonal police reported on Monday.

Three children aged 7, 6 and 3 sat down unnoticed in the family's car, which was parked in front of the alpine hut. For reasons that are not yet clear, the car started to roll. The father tried in vain to stop the vehicle.

The two children, aged 7 and 6, were able to get out of the rolling car. The 3-year-old remained in the car, which rolled down a sloping meadow for around 60 meters and finally landed in the Fläschbach.

The child suffered a minor cut to his head. The other family members were uninjured. The car was a total loss. The fire department had to be called out to deal with the leaking liquids and set up a dam to block the stream.
