The City of Bern launched a charter on Thursday with the aim of promoting work integration. The aim is to offer prospects to people who find it difficult to access the job market. Companies can sign the charter and thereby commit to its objectives.

"The commitment of companies to work integration is a win-win situation for everyone involved," said Mayor Alec von Graffenried (GFL) in a statement to the media in Bern. The people concerned were given the chance to find a place in the world of work and the companies a new way to tackle the shortage of skilled workers.

With the charter, those involved are sending a strong signal for more social responsibility and integration in the world of work, emphasized local councillor Franziska Teuscher (Green Alliance).

The charter is intended to offer those affected a professional perspective and promote equal opportunities for people from the social and asylum sector.

Through integration, companies gain access to a larger and more diverse pool of workers. The employees gained in this way are often highly motivated and loyal, writes the city in its press release.

Those involved in work integration can access support services such as coaching. There is also the option of having wages during an induction phase partially financed by cantonal integration funds.
