The commander of the St. Gallen municipal police, Ralph Hurni, is taking early retirement at the end of March 2025 at the age of 63. He has been in charge of the municipal police for almost twelve years and had previously held various management positions with the municipal police since 1997.

As commander of the municipal police, Hurni was president and co-president of the Swiss Association of Municipal Police Chiefs (SSPA) from 2016 to 2019 and from 2023 to 2024, the city of St. Gallen wrote in a press release. In this role, he has championed the interests and security needs of cities and municipalities at a national level.
