The quality of the drinking water in all parts of Uster previously affected by the contamination once again meets the legal requirements, as Energie Uster AG, which is responsible for the drinking water supply, announced on Monday. This was shown by the results of measurements taken by the cantonal laboratory on Monday.
On Thursday, contamination with E. coli bacteria was detected in the drinking water of the neighborhoods south of the railroad line. The population was advised to use the water only after boiling it first.
The contaminated water came from the Strandbad pumping station, which was disconnected from the network. Flushing of the pipes began on Thursday evening.
Affected pumping station remains disconnected
The Strandbad pumping station is still disconnected from the network and will remain so until the investigations have been completed. It is still unclear how the contamination occurred.
Some of the affected residents have accused the city of failing to provide sufficient information and of informing the general public too late. Many of those affected found out about the problems from the media on Thursday evening or Friday morning. In addition, no alarm was triggered via the Alertswiss app.
"We deeply regret this and apologize for it," Stefan Feldmann, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Energie Uster AG and Uster City Councillor, is quoted as saying. The communication measures in such cases will now be reviewed in detail and adjusted if necessary.
