A driver who was clearly driving too fast skidded while overtaking on the A18 highway in Aesch BL and hit a wall. The driver, who had consumed alcohol and drugs, was injured in the accident.

The 31-year-old was traveling from Basel towards Aesch at 1.30 a.m. on Sunday. The Basel-Landschaft police reported that he was driving at a massively excessive speed and wanted to overtake a car turning onto the A18 from Arlesheim BL. At the same time, however, the car wanted to change to the left-hand lane in the direction of Delsberg JU.

Surprised by the situation, the speeding driver skidded. His car touched the rear of the other car, hit a wall, overturned and came to a standstill on its side.

The driver was taken to hospital with injuries. The alcohol test revealed a level of 1.58 per mille, according to the press release. The man had also consumed cocaine. The driver of the other car was uninjured.
