A drunk driver caused an accident in Eschenz TG on Saturday evening and called the fire department, even though his vehicle was not on fire. The uninjured man had to surrender his driver's license.

A breath test on the 41-year-old Czech revealed a level of 0.83 mg/l (1.66 per mille), as reported by the Thurgau cantonal police on Sunday. The driver had called the emergency call center for help shortly after 7.45 p.m. because his car was on fire. The fire department found the vehicle in an orchard, but the car was not on fire.
According to initial findings, the vehicle had left the road and ended up in a field. It continued there and collided with several apple trees. Property damage amounting to several tens of thousands of francs was caused.
