The Schaffhausen Cantonal Council continued the debate on a new energy law on Monday. The conservatives opposed any changes that would lead to a tightening of existing regulations.

The Schaffhausen Cantonal Council interrupted the debate on the new energy law, which began at the meeting two weeks ago, after just two hours on Monday because a council excursion was on the agenda.

On Monday, the Cantonal Council dealt with several amendments that had already caused discussion in the special committee. For example, the Cantonal Council decided, with a casting vote by President Erich Schudel (SVP, Beggingen), to weaken an article on the replacement of heating systems in buildings.

Only in buildings with "high energy consumption" should it be necessary to ensure that part of the previous energy requirement can be saved or covered by renewable energies when replacing the heating system. A majority of the committee wanted this to apply to all buildings.

The Cantonal Council will discuss the new energy law further at its next meeting. If the law does not achieve a four-fifths majority in the final vote, the voters of Schaffhausen will have the final say.
