The reptile was found on the cycle path next to Theophil-Roninger-Strasse in Rheinfelden, as reported by the Aargau cantonal police on Friday. A passer-by saw the lizard, which was around 40 centimetres long, and reported it to the police.
A patrol initially brought the outwardly uninjured animal to the police station. It was then taken to an animal shelter, it said.
The police also reported on Friday afternoon that a reporter from regional broadcaster TeleM1 had come across a notice at the scene. The bearded dragon owner was looking for her escaped reptile in this way.
She has now been informed of the animal's whereabouts, the police stated. "So the story has come to a good conclusion."
According to experts, bearded dragons are relatively often kept as pets. However, they are considered exotic wild animals that suffer when kept as pets and cannot be kept in a species-appropriate manner.
