The Climate Unit in the Presidential Department, which has been in existence for two years, is to undergo an external analysis. Conradin Cramer (LDP), President of the Basel government, announced this on Thursday as part of his 100-day media conference.

The evaluation should show where there is room for improvement in terms of coordination, said Cramer. Cramer did not want to know anything about possible conflicts. In his view, it is a normal process to evaluate newly-created structures after a certain period of time. The external evaluation was intended to find out whether the specialist unit was on track.

The Climate Office was set up by the then President of the Government and current Federal Councillor Beat Jans (SP). It coordinates the implementation of climate protection in the canton in collaboration with other specialist departments. It is also responsible for climate protection reports. The office is headed by Till Berger.
