From mid-July, the state of Fribourg wants to accommodate around 50 asylum seekers in need of protection in a hotel building in Givisiez. A good 20 of them were living in the premises of the former Billens hospital, which was closed at the end of March.

The people in need of protection are mainly elderly people or people with health problems, as the state of Fribourg announced on Thursday. The "My Hotel" building is one way of accommodating asylum seekers in an appropriate setting and delaying the use of structures such as care homes, according to the press release.

Around 30 unaccompanied minors will also be housed in the building. They will receive socio-educational support and the youngest will attend school in the city of Fribourg.

Around 150 refugees from Ukraine have been accommodated in the municipality of Givisiez since 2022. The existing community center is adjacent to the "My Hotel".
