Specifically, the approximately one-kilometre-long section between Unterfeld in Buochs and the car ferry in Beckenried is to be widened from the current 6 to 9.5 meters, as announced by the State Chancellery on Thursday. In addition, a cycle path is to be built and existing infrastructure such as the Träschlibach bridge will be replaced.
According to the press release, there have been several serious accidents on the route in the past. Due to the narrow lane, trucks and buses regularly swerve onto the sidewalk.
Extensive work is required to widen the road, including moving retaining walls and clearing woodland. The government wants to coordinate the upcoming work well and exploit synergies in terms of noise protection and infrastructure renewal.
The government is aiming for at least 30 percent co-financing from the federal government. Of the remaining costs, 80 percent are to be paid by the canton and 20 percent by the municipality of Beckenried, as it will receive an "attractive village entrance". The matter is to be discussed by the cantonal parliament at the end of the year and submitted to the people in the first half of 2025. Construction is not expected to start before 2028.
