Assault Handbag robber in Basel seriously injured in altercation

A suspected handbag robber was seriously injured in an altercation on Unterer Rheinweg in Basel on Sunday evening. The injured man had to be taken to hospital, and the search for the suspected perpetrator was unsuccessful, as the Basel public prosecutor's office announced on Tuesday.

The altercation occurred when a 27-year-old Algerian man grabbed a handbag from a group of people at 9.20 p.m. and tried to make off with it, according to the statement.

The suspected thief was discovered and seriously injured in a subsequent altercation. It is not known who injured the Algerian. The public prosecutor's office is looking for witnesses.
