The horse chestnut fell over on Thursday morning: It severely damaged two parked cars and slightly damaged a house facade, but no people were injured, according to the city.

Stadtgrün Winterthur regularly checks the approximately 16,000 municipal trees in residential areas, the city stated in its press release. The horse chestnut tree, which was planted alongside the playground in 1906, had not previously shown any visible damage. However, the roots were now showing signs of rot.

The fallen tree was removed. Experts are checking the condition of the other horse chestnuts.
