Only a limited number of new jobs should be created in the Basel-Landschaft administration. The Basel-Landschaft Young Liberals launched the "cost-cutting initiative" on Thursday.

Among other things, the initiative demands that the number of employees in the canton of Basel-Landschaft must not exceed the ratio of one full-time equivalent to 67 inhabitants. Otherwise, the government council must take measures, according to the text of the initiative. According to a statement from the Young Liberals, there is currently one cantonal full-time equivalent position for every 62 inhabitants.

In their statement, the Young Finns of Basel-Landschaft describe the financial budget of the canton of Baselland as "desolate". The "endless creation" of new jobs in the cantonal administration contributes to this "precarious situation", which is why a healthy growth in the number of full-time equivalent positions in the cantonal administration is needed.

According to the 2023 annual accounts, the canton of Baselland had a total of 4941.6 full-time equivalent positions.
