The Italian state is having the "Casa d'Italia" in Zurich's Kreis 4 district renovated. The Consulate General, which is currently located on Tödistrasse in District 2, is moving into the historic building.

The "Casa d'Italia" building, which belongs to the Italian state, will house the consulate general, the cultural institute and the Italian state schools. According to a report by the Italian news agency Ansa on Monday, the renovation will cost around 14 million francs. Construction is due to start in September.

The new building should be completed in 17 months. He is very happy, said the Consul General in Zurich, Mario Baldi. "After seven years of waiting, construction work is finally starting." The aim is to celebrate the Republic Day in 2026 in the new "Casa d'Italia". "It should be the home of all Italians".

The listed building has been empty for years. It was originally used by nuns as an orphanage. In 1935, the fascist dictator Benito Mussolini had the building converted into the "Casa d'Italia".
