Traffic accident Learner driver crashes into wall in highway tunnel in Basel
On Thursday evening, an accident occurred in the tunnel at the A3 Luzernerring highway entrance in Basel. A 19-year-old learner driver lost control of her vehicle for as yet unexplained reasons and collided with the tunnel wall, according to the Basel-Stadt cantonal police.

According to the police, the driver and her companion were not injured. The vehicle blocked the roadway and triggered a fire alarm in the tunnel, which led to a full closure of the St. Johann Tunnel and the Horburg Tunnel, according to the statement.
The closure lasted around one and a half hours and led to considerable tailbacks as far as the canton of Basel-Landschaft and France, the press release added. The Luzernerring highway entrance remained closed for around three hours.
The cause of the accident is being investigated by the traffic police.
