A local resident is taking legal action against the shuttle bus between the Dolder parking lot and Zurich Zoo. For the time being, the zoo is allowed to continue operating the service, as the Administrative Court has not granted the appeal suspensive effect.

When Zurich Zoo is very busy, visitors are directed to the Dolder parking lot by car. In the past, this was the case on between 77 and 121 days a year, according to a ruling by the Administrative Court published on Monday.
A shuttle bus takes visitors from the parking lot to the zoo. Since 2009, the Department of Economic Affairs has granted a permit to operate the zoo for five years at a time. A local resident is now contesting the last permit from fall 2023.
He argues that the zoo allows visitors to travel to the zoo by car using the shuttle bus. This would lead to a massive increase in traffic at his place of residence.
As the effects could not be made good even if he were to be proven right in court, he called for the suspensive effect to be lifted. The bus service would then have to be temporarily suspended.
More traffic expected in the district
The appeal is still with the Department of Economic Affairs. However, the Administrative Court has now rejected the suspensive effect of the appeal. It will not hear the appeal. The resident would not suffer any irreparable disadvantage.
The bus service was known to the visitors. According to the decision, it is questionable whether an immediate and surprising cessation would bring more people onto public transport. The judges rather expect more car drivers who would look for a parking space in the district closer to the zoo.
The decision on the suspensive effect is legally binding.
