Eight of the 14 athletes that the canton of Lucerne included in a support program in 2022 with a view to the 2024 Summer Olympics will be able to travel to Paris. In addition, there is one athlete who was not a member of the program.
The "Canton of Lucerne Olympic Team" project supports athletes in their preparations for a major event with financial resources, among other things. Two years ago, 14 athletes were accepted into the team for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
As the State Chancellery announced on Thursday, eight members of the team will be competing in Paris. These are beach volleyball player Esmée Böbner (Hasle), wheelchair athlete Catherine Debrunner (Geuensee) and rowers Patrick Brunner (Sempach), Lisa Lötscher (Meggen), Roman Röösli (Lucerne), Kay Schätzle (Lucerne), Joel Schürch (Schenkon) and Fabienne Schweizer (Buchrain). The rower Maurin Lange (Kriens), who was not a member of the support program, will also be taking part in the Games.
The fact that more than half of the original Olympic team made the selection for Paris is an "extraordinary success", the State Chancellery announced.
