The Lucerne Transport Association (VVL) council has approved its new bus and rail services for the timetable change in mid-December. One measure is to improve the connections from Rontal to Rotkreuz ZG.

Specifically, line 23 will be extended to Hünenberg and the gaps in the frequency of the TransSeetalExpress from Hochdorf to Rotkreuz will be closed, as the VVL announced on Tuesday. This will provide better access to the workplaces in Rotkreuz.

From summer 2025, the new bus route 214 will be introduced, which will run from Kriens via Littau to Malters, it added. This should significantly reduce travel times on Rengglochstrasse.

Improvements are also planned for busy routes. Additional services are planned on line 73 from Adligenswil Widspüel to Lucerne railroad station and on line 1 between Kriens and Lucerne railroad station due to school traffic. Line 8 is also to be extended in the direction of Hirtenhof due to school traffic.

Additional vehicles are also to be deployed in the Sursee region on line 62 from Ruswil to Sursee. The Buttisholz Dorf to Sursee route will be extended on weekdays with eight additional pairs of trains during peak hours. This will create new rail connections to the RE24 from or to Olten and Lucerne.

In the lakeside communities of Weggis and Vitznau, the service on route 528 will be discontinued and integrated into routes 502 and 653, according to the statement. In addition, the service on route 502 will be taken over by route 508 during the day and run with longer journey times.

Rail services in the Lucerne West region will be expanded, according to the VVL. From Monday to Saturday, a train will run every half hour until 8 pm between Langenthal, Huttwil, Willisau and Wolhusen. Additional services are planned in the Rontal-Rotkreuz region and on the S41 between Lucerne and Horw.

The new bus and rail services will be available from December 15.
