Unknown persons set fire to the letterboxes in front of an apartment building in Erlinsbach AG on Thursday night. The letterboxes were completely destroyed. According to the police, no one was injured.

The report of the fire was received at 2.45 a.m., the Aargau cantonal police said on Thursday. When the police and fire department arrived at the scene of the fire, the letterbox system was already fully engulfed in flames.
The fire department was able to quickly bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading to the building, it said. However, the apartment building was damaged by smoke.
According to the police, they assume that the letterboxes were deliberately set on fire. They have started an investigation and are looking for witnesses.
A police spokesperson told the Keystone-SDA news agency on request that there were no indications that fireworks had been used in the crime or that there was a connection to the national holiday.
