A 29-year-old man was seriously injured when a homemade firework exploded. He cut open several fireworks with a large bang effect and poured the explosive powder, known as Thunder, into a metal pipe. An explosion occurred when the powder was compressed.

After receiving initial treatment from the emergency services, the man was flown to hospital by rescue helicopter, the St. Gallen cantonal police said in a statement.
