A man was seriously injured in an attack at Bern railroad station on Friday night. According to initial police reports, he was sitting on a bench near the meeting point when another man attacked him with a sharp object.

The victim tried to defend himself, whereupon the alleged perpetrator fled on foot in the direction of Neuengasse. The seriously injured man was taken to hospital by ambulance after receiving initial treatment at the scene, as the Bern cantonal police wrote in a statement on Friday.

The police assume that the victim and the alleged perpetrator knew each other. An investigation into the incident has been launched.
