The Ticino architect Mario Botta is renovating the headquarters of the Freiburger Kantonalbank, which was built according to his plans in the early 1980s. For example, the counter hall will open directly onto the Boulevard des Pérolles.
The renovation is estimated to cost around 4.4 million francs. The work should be completed by the end of 2025, as the cantonal bank announced on Wednesday.
The main entrance to the bank and the counter hall will be redesigned. There will still be four counters for deposits and withdrawals. Two counters are planned for advisory services. There will also be a self-service zone with ATMs and a coin-operated machine, the bank announced.
Lounges for receiving customers are to be created on the second floor. The other floors will not be affected by the architectural redesign. However, the offices will be renovated.
Founded in 1892, Fribourg Cantonal Bank was initially based at 26 Grand-Rue. In the mid-1970s, it purchased land at the beginning of Boulevard des Pérolles. A year later, the bank announced an architectural competition, which was won by the Ticino architect Mario Botta. The new head office opened in 1982. Now Botta is set to transform his work from back then.
